Horry County Schools nutrition services employee tests positive for coronavirus
An Horry County Schools employee working at Socastee Elementary during the closure has tested positive for coronavirus, according to an email from the district.
The Nutrition Services employee last reported to work April 2, and all employees who had direct contact with the employee have been contacted and directed to self-quarantine for 14 days, the email states, and the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control will conduct an investigation.
District spokeswoman Lisa Bourcier did not know how many employees were directed to self-quarantine.
The Socastee Elementary school meal site has been closed and affected areas will be cleaned and disinfected, as will impacted buses that were delivering meals to students. Socastee High School will now be the site for students’ grab-and-go meals in the Socastee area.
The district is also having to consider scaling back operations of the current 13 grab-and-go meal sites and bus meal-pickup locations, according to Bourcier.
All employees, including the one who tested positive, are pre-screened daily by the school nurse, and the employee did not show any symptoms during their most recent work day, the email states.
HCS cannot legally share any additional information about the employee or their current health condition, Bourcier wrote.
