Coronavirus updates for March 19: How Myrtle Beach is adjusting to social distancing life

Thursday evening: It’s unclear how many cases Horry County now has after McLeod Seacoast and Conway Medical Center both confirmed positive coronavirus cases Thursday evening.

The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control said earlier Thursday that Horry County had six cases, an increase of the five confirmed Wednesday.

Grand Strand Medical Center, Tidelands Waccamaw Community Hospital, McLeod Seacoast and CMC all have confirmed cases of the virus. There have been no deaths connected to coronavirus in Horry County.

Thursday morning: Five cases of the coronavirus, or COVID-19, are confirmed in Horry County, health officials say.

DHEC confirmed the fifth case Wednesday night. Four additional cases were confirmed earlier in the week, with the first confirmed case in Horry County announced Saturday night.

There have been no deaths related to the virus in Horry County as of Thursday morning.

Here are the latest updates on the coronavirus and how it is impacting the Grand Strand.

South Carolina has 63 confirmed cases, as of Thursday afternoon. Three new cases were confirmed Thursday in the Lowcountry.

Dozens of restaurants in the Myrtle Beach area are offering delivery and curbside pick-up after the South Carolina governor ordered restaurants and bars to cease dining-in services. Here is where to find free delivery and kids meals and curbside pick up.

Other businesses and attractions, like Broadway at the Beach and The Market Common, remain open, as well as beaches along the Strand.

There are no new confirmed cases of COVID-19 at Tidelands Health as of Thursday morning, according to a spokesperson. The Sun News has reached out to other area hospitals for updates.

Schools

Horry County Schools continues its meal pick up for students and its digital device pick up today as all public schools in South Carolina are closed through the end of the month.

The grab-and-go style breakfast and lunch meals will be served Monday through Thursday. Students must be present in the vehicle to receive meals, and adult meals will not be provided, HCS said.

Meals will be served 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Wednesday’s bags will include a lunch and breakfast for the next day. Thursday’s grab-and-go meal will include a lunch, and one breakfast and lunch for Friday. No adult meals will be provided.

Digital device pick up lasts through Friday. Parents and guardians need to be present with their driver’s licenses or another form of identification, according to HCS. Here is the schedule for pick up times.

Wash your hands

Washing hands often with soap and water is recommended by the United States’ Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to help stop the spread of the virus.

If you feel sick, the CDC recommends staying home and wear a face mask if you are sick. If you are not sick, you do not need to wear a face mask, according to the CDC. Here is more about the virus and how to stay healthy.
