Here’s what is closed or canceled due to coronavirus threats in the Myrtle Beach area
Cancellations and closures are starting to mount in the Myrtle Beach area due to the threat of coronavirus.
Grand Strand Regional Medical Center confirmed Horry County’s first case of the coronavirus Saturday night, with two additional cases confirmed Sunday. South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster announced Sunday all public schools will close for two weeks.
Here is a running list of what has been canceled, postponed or closed in the Myrtle Beach area:
- The 32nd annual Pee Dee Streetrodders’ car and truck show is postponed to a later date. Event organizers said they are working to reschedule the event for sometime in the fall. The event was originally scheduled for March 19-21 and is typically held at the former Myrtle Square Mall site.
- The Luck of the MarshWalk in Murrells Inlet has canceled its costume contest Tuesday, according to a post from the MarshWalk. The restaurants involved in the event will still offer food and drink specials on St. Patrick’s Day.
- Horry County Government announced Sunday limited closures and cancellations of court and meetings. Magistrate and circuit court is canceled the week of March 16 and public meetings for the week are postponed, a release states.
Starting Tuesday, Horry County will close libraries, the museum and living farm, recreational centers and the veterans affairs office. All events and youth athletics are canceled too. While the county government will continue to function, officials are asking the public to do as much of their business online as possible.
- The City of Myrtle Beach facilities will be closed to the public beginning March 16. The city has also closed it’s public parks.
- The City of Conway is open, but buildings are closed to the public to “limit personal contact and potential exposure” to the coronavirus, according to a post.
- Georgetown County will close the majority of its offices to the public beginning March 18.
Saint Frances Animal Center has postponed its 5K due to virus concerns, a release states.
The Coast FA is suspending all youth soccer programs and a trip to Columbia due to coronavirus. The season will be rescheduled once schools reopen.
United Way of Horry County has temporarily closed its free tax prep sites. Taxes can still be filed online through United Way’s filing tool here: www.MyFreeTaxes.com.
The Military History Tour, Princess Gala and Movie Film Series at The Market Common have been postponed. The 2nd annual Happy Little Bar Crawl is still set for March 21, according to Market Common’s website.
Brookgreen Gardens will close several of its galleries, excursions and the museum store. Brookgreen has dropped ticket prices to $10 for adults and $5 for children. Here is a list of what is closed.
The Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational scheduled for Thursday through Saturday at Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium has been canceled.
North Myrtle Beach Parks & Recreation Department has postponed youth spring sports practices and games until further notice.
Town of Surfside has closed its offices.
Franklin G. Burroughs-Simeon B. Chapin Art Museum will close until further notice amid health and safety concerns.
Tanger Outlet locations on Hwy 501 and Hwy 17 announced it will operate under modified hours, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Sunday, until further notice. Individual retail store hours may vary.
Wahoo’s Fish House’s fourth Wahoo’s Country Music Festival has been postponed.
EdVenture Children’s Museum will be closed starting Tuesday, March 17 until further notice.
The Coastal RTA is maintaining normal bus routes and operating paratransit services. It will close indoor waiting areas and public restrooms at RTA facilities.
The Murrells Inlet 2020 Race for the Inlet scheduled for March 28 has been postponed until September. An exact date will be announced later.
Ducks Night Life canceled its St. Patrick’s Day featuring Smokin Hot that was scheduled for Tuesday.
Legends in Concert Theater Myrtle Beach has suspended all shows indefinitely. The theater advises those who have purchased tickets to hold on to them because they will be honored for a future show.
Medieval Times announced it will cease operations.
House of Blues Restaurant and Bar will temporarily close until further notice.
LOFT Outlet stores are closed through March 28.
YMCA of Coastal Carolina is closing its facilities in Myrtle Beach and Georgetown beginning March 19 through at least March 29, a release states.
Dick’s Sporting Goods at Coastal Grand Mall closed March 18 until at least April 2.
The Myrtle Beach Mall will close at 7 p.m. March 20 until further notice.
Churches
Some area churches are taking precautions to help prevent the spread of the coronavirus by banning wine at communion and also offering live-streamed services online.
Trinity Church in Myrtle Beach announced it has issued a temporary ban on wine during communion.

Myrtle Beach International Airport
The Myrtle Beach International Airport (MYR) is open and flights should still be on schedule Monday morning, according to a statement from the airport. Crews are working to keep public spaces clean especially in high traffic areas.
“Our custodial team is diligently maintaining their cleaning schedule, while additional signage has been placed in public restrooms and hand sanitizing stations have been placed in high-traffic areas,” the release said.
Flight expected arrival and departure times may be checked on the airport’s website.
