Conway’s Waccamaw Outfitters just sold after announcing its closure. Here’s what we know

After announcing their closure at the end of this year, this Conway business has found new ownership to take over.

Waccamaw Outfitters, located at the Conway City Marina, announced they’d be shutting their doors permanently on Dec. 31, 2024 after a decade in business, according to a social media announcement posted on Oct. 22.

In a recent Facebook post on Dec. 3, soon-to-be former owner, Matthew Varnadore, said he’s found someone to buy the business from him.

The business was sold to Chad Hayes.

“Chad is a Conway native and has spent many years in the marina business,” Varnadore’s post said. “He has worked for the Grand Dunes and Wacca Wache marinas and has also run his own yacht management company. He has spent the last 12 years as a private yacht captain traveling from Canada to the Virgin Islands.”

According to Varnadore, Hayes plans to continue what they’ve already built, and add his on twist to things.

“He will do an amazing job and we ask that you please support him as you have supported us,” Varnadore wrote. “I am behind him 100% and will be assisting him until he gets up and running.”

At this point, Hayes has also put a bid in with the city in hopes of obtaining a lease for the marina store, Varnadore said.

Previously Conway’s spokesperson June Wood said the lease for the marina store is set to expire at the end of the calendar year.

In the original post, Varnadore said he has decided to pursue his yacht broker career full time. A few days ago he said he’s had another opportunity come his way, but will remain in boat sales as well.

“Over the last 10 years we have met so many great people and made a lot of new friends. We would like to thank each and everyone of you for your support,” the original post said. “We would like to thank the City of Conway for all they have done for us and for giving us this opportunity. The City of Conway will be looking for a new business to come into the marina store and take over soon.”
