These SC cities are the best places to retire, US News & World Report says. Here’s why
As this year comes to a close and the new year approaches, some people may be thinking about retirement.
Luckily, the U.S. News & World Report released their list for the best places to retire in 2025 in the U.S.
Top criteria the outlet used included the happiness of local residents, housing affordability, tax rates and health care quality, the report said.
Out of 150 U.S. cities, these five South Carolina ones made the cut.
- Myrtle Beach, SC
At spot number 121 out of 150, Myrtle Beach made the list with an overall score of 6.4 out of 10. Housing affordability received a score of 5.8 out of 10 and health care received a score of 3.7 out of 10.
- Columbia, SC
At spot number 78 out of 150, Columbia ranked higher than Myrtle Beach on the list Although their overall score was slightly lower at 6.3 out of 10, the state capital ranked higher on both housing affordability with a score of 6.7 out of 10, and health care with a score of 3.9 out of 10.
- Spartanburg, SC
Ranking above both Columbia and Myrtle Beach, Spartanburg took spot number 67 out of 150. The city’s overall score was the same as Myrtle Beach at 6.4, but Spartanburg’s housing affordability was much higher than the other two cities at 7.4 out of 10.
- Greenville, SC
Breaking into the top half of the list, Greenville ranks 30 out of 150 for the best place to retire in 2025. The city’s overall score was 6.6 out of 10, with housing affordability ranking at a 6.8 out of 10, and health care at 3.9 out of 10.
- Charleston, SC
The highest ranking South Carolina city on the list is Charleston, taking spot number 13 out of 150. Charleston’s overall score was a 6.8 out of 10. The city had the highest health care score compared to the other three South Carolina cities at 4.2 out of 10.
