THE LOWDOWN
The name for this new sports bar comes from the philosophy that men create their man-caves down in the basement. The Carolina Forest spot opened last April 20 – yes, 4/20. It’s still gearing up, but for the most part, the stones of the cave are falling into place.
The actual bar is a large L, and the wall behind it is a giant chalkboard, announcing specials and messages from the owners and employees. The chalkboard extends out and around the rest of the walls. Above it, large-screen TVs broadcast anything and everything sports-related.
A projection setup is on the way, just in time for the NFL package to rev up. There’s outside seating, and inside, they’ve grouped a few picnic tables. And if the ballgames let you down, get your own games going with a couple of dart boards or a couple of pool tables.
Happy hour is from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. with $2 domestic beers, $2 house liquors and $2 off of appetizers. Monday is Server Appreciation Day with $2 Fireball shots. That’s dirt cheap. House vodka is $2.50 all day, every day.
The Basement is open every day from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m.
TIPS
Everyone seems to have a good time with the chalkboard. Employees are always making up new shots and drinks and posting them on the board. Plus the board is full of challenges to the regulars and employees. The picnic tables are also a cool novelty that you don’t see everywhere.
