22 of 24 Myrtle Beach-area baseball, softball teams qualify for postseason
All that’s left for the Grand Strand’s baseball and softball teams are a few questions about postseason seeding.
Following a handful of region games Thursday, 22 of the 24 area teams are officially qualified for the postseason. The other two teams are mathematically eliminated.
Maybe the biggest game Friday will be Myrtle Beach’s home baseball game against rival North Myrtle Beach. Both teams have punched playoff tickets. However, if the Seahawks win, they’ll earn the region crown courtesy of, at worst, a tie-breaker over St. James.
Socastee baseball can also clinch an outright title in its first year back in Class AAAA with a home victory over South Florence on Friday.
The four seeds in Region VII-AAA softball are locked in. Georgetown (first), North Myrtle Beach (second), St. James (third) and Myrtle Beach (fourth) will finish in that order regardless of Friday’s games.
Region VIII-AA softball can be wrapped up without tie-breakers with an Aynor victory over Mullins. If that happens, the Blue Jackets automatically finish atop the division, with Dillon, Waccamaw and Loris behind them.
The South Carolina playoffs in both sports begin next Thursday and Friday.
