Coastal Carolina completes an 11-game football schedule with addition of an FCS opponent

Coastal Carolina has completed its football schedule, which will be one game shy of a full 12-game slate.

The Chanticleers announced Monday that they have added Campbell on Sept. 19 at Brooks Stadium in Conway to a schedule that has had to be revamped because of the coronavirus pandemic.

In addition to eight Sun Belt Conference games, the Chanticleers have added non-conference games at Kansas on Sept. 12 and against Liberty on Dec. 5.

Six of CCU’s 11 scheduled games are at Brooks Stadium.

CCU had all four of its originally scheduled non-conference games canceled because of concerns over the spread of COVID-19.

The Chants had games canceled that were scheduled at South Carolina of the Southeastern Conference on Sept. 5, at Eastern Michigan of the Mid-American Conference on Sept. 12, against FCS member Duquesne on Sept. 19, and against Kansas of the Big 12 on Sept. 26.

The SEC limited its teams to 10 conference games, the MAC postponed its football season and intends to play in the spring, and Duquesne opted against playing as an independent when its league, the Northeast Conference, indefinitely suspended all fall athletic competitions.

The Chants rescheduled the Kansas game with a contest at the Jayhawks on Sept. 12. The teams are exchanging home games, so Kansas will travel to Conway for a game Sept. 11, 2021 and become the first team from a Power 5 conference to play at Brooks Stadium.

CCU and Campbell have met once previously, with Coastal winning 58-21 on a Wednesday afternoon, Sept. 12, 2018. The game was moved up four days and relocated to Buies Creek, N.C. from Conway due to Hurricane Florence.

Campbell is a member of the Football Championship Subdivision’s Big South Conference, which has postponed its fall sports seasons with the intention of playing in the spring but is allowing its football teams to schedule up to four non-conference games in the fall.

The Camels have added games against three Sun Belt opponents, as they are scheduled to play at Georgia Southern on Sept. 12 and at Appalachian State on Sept. 26.

The 2020-21 college football season has been ravaged by the pandemic.

In the Football Bowl Subdivision, Power 5 conferences the Pac-12 and Big 10 have postponed their seasons with the intention of playing in the spring, as have Group of Five conferences the MAC and Mountain West. The Big 12, ACC and SEC have all released schedules with one or no non-conference games permitted, and Conference USA, the Sun Belt and American Athletic conferences announced they are allowing full 12-game schedules if their teams can find opponents.

CCU’s schedule consists of 10 FBS opponents and one FCS foe.

The Chants are selling season tickets despite the uncertainty of the season and attendance allowances. They can be purchased by calling the Chanticleer Athletics Ticket Office at 843-347-8499 or by going to www.GoCCUsports.com.
