Gamecocks lose linebacker to transfer portal
South Carolina football linebacker Rosendo Louis has entered the NCAA transfer portal, a school spokesman confirmed to The State.
The junior from Deerfield Beach, Florida was a four-star prospect when he signed to play for Will Muschamp in South Carolina’s 2018 recruiting class. He was an Under Armour All-American.
Louis played in six games this season, all in a backup or special teams role. He missed all of the 2020 season with a torn tendon in his quad that required surgery. He redshirted in 2019 after playing in four games. His most playing time came as a true freshman in 2018, when he had 12 tackles across seven games.
He’s the fourth Gamecock to announce plans to leave the team since the summer and the second one to leave during the season. Senior receiver OrTre Smith on Oct. 4 announced plans to transfer.
Transfers are normal across college athletics any time of year and especially after a coaching change. The Gamecocks have seen 13 scholarship players depart since Beamer was hired in December.
Redshirt senior offensive lineman Jordan Rhodes entered the transfer portal in August and transferred to Ole Miss. Former four-star recruit Mike Wyman entered the transfer portal on July 15, but was the first player to do so since Ryan Hilinski in January.
