Stop griping about school board pay raise

Re “Pay Increases won't be forgotten election time” letter by Bryson Preston.

When is enough, enough? The arguments published in The Sun News blasting the substantial pay increase approved by the Horry County school board grew tiresome. That elected body serves community service functions, which are just as important as the ones carried out by Horry County Council, probably more so. Yet, there has been little or no adverse dialogue regarding the monthly and yearly compensation that members of that elected body receive.

Do the math and determine for yourself if there is a measurable difference in total financial compensation between the two entities.

Finally, if you think education is expensive, try ignorance. Something to ponder when bashing all of those who are contributing considerable time and effort to continually ensure our children are receiving a quality education. Maybe, just maybe, the critics would form a different opinion of the recent pay increase situation if they spent a few hours each week volunteering in the local public schools as opposed to sitting on the sidelines continually criticizing those who are actively on the firing line.
