No scientific ‘consensus’ on climate change

Re “Hyman the right change for Seventh Congressional District” letter by Stewart Walls.

I would like to point out to Mr. Walls a glaring error in his letter in support of Mal Hyman. Within his fault-finding ramble directed at Rep. Tom Rice, he referenced “Responsible scientific consensus” concerning climate change. I would call Mr. Walls attention to that phrase, “scientific consensus.”

Science is based in observable, provable, facts that lend themselves to replication. If the study or effect in question requires a consensus, logic would dictate that said study or effect is opinion, and not scientific.

Therefore, scientific consensus is an impossibility. It is either one or the other; either scientific or a consensus, but never both. If you wish to try and sell something as science, avoid the consensus, prove then replicate your theory.
