Hyman the right change for Seventh Congressional District
Everyone who has any interest in the upcoming election has heard plenty about the presidential candidates.
There is another contest that deserves mention. Mal Hyman is running on the Democratic ticket for the Seventh Congressional District against incumbent Republican Rep. Tom Rice. It is noted that Donald Trump and Rice have espoused term limits for elected officials. Rice noted that position back in 2012, according to House campaign website votetomrice.org. Ergo, time for a change.
Rice has cast some boneheaded votes that raise questions about his judgment. One example is he voted a big fat no on the continuing resolution at the end of September. What's that, you say? Congress had to vote to authorize funding to keep the government running. He was on the losing side on that. Fortunately, the resolution passed.
The last time the Republicans shut government operations down, it caused significant inconvenience and a lot of money was wasted. Why did Rice do that? He professed that it was to be fiscally responsible and that he wanted to pass a spending bill that would reflect the concerns of his constituents and move America forward. Baloney.
Another area that is important to me is the issue of climate change. His leadership is lacking there. There does not seem to be any mention of this topic on his website. Responsible scientific consensus is clear. Action is needed.
Mr. Hyman's website information is fine; he is a college professor and has been publicly active. He appears to recognize the importance of the critical issues, including doing something about infrastructure, foreign policy, immigration, economic well-being and climate change.
He has a good resume and we can use a change. Check him out.
