Will Myrtle Beach, SC get snow this weekend? Here’s what to expect with the forecast
On Thursday morning, many in the Grand Strand woke up to below freezing temperatures outside and crisp winter blue skies.
But, how long will these atypically cold mornings last for and what’s going to happen this weekend?
As of Thursday morning, the National Weather Service out of Wilmington, NC has said that a wintry mix and light ice are possible in inland Horry County from Friday night through Saturday.
That wintry mix will likely remain as rain for coastal cities in Horry County on Friday, the forecast said. Saturday has a chance for more morning showers as well.
A wintry mix can include multiple types of precipitation at the same time, including ice, sleet, freezing rain and snow.
By Saturday, the NWS said sunny skies should be back in the Grand Strand.
In addition to potential freezing rain on Friday night, the NWS has issued a cold weather advisory for Thursday night with conditions and wind chills expected to get as low as 15 degrees.
Temperatures on Friday morning are expected to be between the high teens and low twenties, with a high of low to mid 40s, the forecast said. By Friday night, the forecast predicts that the morning lows will rise up to the low to mid 30s with the highs also moving slightly up to the high 40s.
After the weekend, the forecast shows that temperatures will be back to the mid 50s with sunny skies, as of Thursday morning.
One of the last times the Grand Strand saw snow fall was seven years ago in 2018. Photos from that storm can be seen here.
