Update: Horry County Schools going virtual on Thursday ahead of Hurricane Idalia’s arrival
Horry County Schools is implementing a virtual learning plan on Aug. 31 as district offices close ahead of Hurricane Idalia’s expected impact on the region.
District leaders have also canceled all athletic and extracurricular activities through Thursday, although on campus practices could still take place on campuses depending on the weather.
District spokeswoman Lisa Bourcier said school staff members will provide directions for students regarding Thursday’s virtual programming.
Students unable to participate due to power outages, lack of internet service or other barriers will be able to make up the day’s coursework in the future. Officials are anticipating a return to in-person learning on Sept. 1.
