Charlotte man killed in ATV crash at Midlands park, coroner says

A Charlotte man was killed in an ATV collision at a Midlands park, the Fairfield County Coroner’s Office said.

On Feb. 8, Richard Swaney crashed the ATV he was riding at Carolina Adventure World, Coroner Chris Hill said in a news release.

The 23-year-old from North Carolina was pinned under the vehicle after it flipped, according to the release.

He was taken to an area hospital where he died, Hill said.

The death was called an accident by the coroner’s office.

Carolina Adventure World calls itself the Southeast’s largest private off-road ATV UTV Dirt bike park, with 100 miles of groomed trails. It’s in Winnsboro, about 40 miles north of Columbia.

Swaney’s death remains under investigation by the coroner’s office.
