Demonstration flight ends with crash that injures pilot, 3 children, NC officials say

A plane crashed in the North Carolina mountains during a demonstration flight, injuring the pilot and three children on board, according to multiple reports.

The four-seat plane crashed after taking off from the Hendersonville Airport on Sunday afternoon, said Rutherford County Emergency Management Coordinator Frankie Hamrick, according to WYFF.

“Our understanding was they were doing a demonstration flight for the three juveniles,” Hamrick said, according to WLOS.

The crash happened just before 5 p.m., the station reports.

A witness told WSPA he “saw the plane spiral down into the woods” near the Polk County line. The four people on board had minor injuries, according to the TV station.

The FAA will take over the investigation Monday, according to WHNS.
