Trump visit to bring traffic delays. What roads to avoid for Myrtle Beach, SC area rally

Presidential candidate Donald Trump will be making a visit to the Myrtle Beach area Saturday, which will mean major highways around the Myrtle Beach and Conway area will be affected.

The former president will have a rally at 2 p.m. at Coastal Carolina University’s HTC Center, 104 Founders Drive in Conway. However, doors open at 11 a.m.

Drivers can expect lane closures and traffic delays during the time Trump will be in the area. Also, Trump’s rallies generally draw large crowds, increasing traffic along U.S. 501 and Highway 544 near the college.

Trump will mostly likely fly into Myrtle Beach International Airport before traveling by motorcade on U.S. 17 to CCU along U.S. 501. It is about an 11 mile trip from the airport to the university.

In addition, Highway 544 could be affected as the HTC Center is located on the back side of the college campus, near the busy highway.

Drivers should plan to avoid those areas on Saturday if possible. It is unknown what time roads will begin to shut down or what direct path Trump’s motorcade will travel.

When Vice President Kamala Harris visited Myrtle Beach on Jan. 6, her travel to the Hilton Myrtle Beach Resort for a 1 p.m. speech required the shut down of highways, including Highway 17, off ramps and side roads leading from the airport to the hotel and back to the airport after she spoke. Harris arrived at the airport a little after noon, but roads were already shut down in advance of her motorcade.

Trump last campaigned in Myrtle Beach in 2015, ahead of his eventual 2016 presidential win.
