18 students taken to hospital when bus crashes during morning route, Iowa cops say
A collision involving a school bus on its morning route sent 20 people to the hospital, Iowa deputies said.
The school bus carrying students driven by a 76-year-old man just outside Granville collided with a 23-year-old driving a pickup truck, the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office said in a Nov. 5 news release.
Eighteen students on the bus were taken to the hospital with a variety of injuries, both minor and serious, deputies said. The bus was heading to Unity Christian High School in Orange City at about 7:40 a.m. on Nov. 5.
McClatchy News reached out to Unity Christian High School but did not immediately receive a response.
Both drivers were also taken to the hospital, according to the sheriff’s office. The 23-year-old suffered critical injuries, officials said.
The accident is still under investigation.
Granville is about a 50-mile drive northeast from Sioux City.
