Hidden camera in church bathroom leads to arrest of worship director, officials say
The worship director of a Michigan church is accused of hiding a camera in a bathroom at the church, officials say.
2/42 Community Church announced Sunday, Sept. 15, the termination and arrest of the worship director, according to a statement shared on Facebook.
A staff member at the Brighton church discovered the hidden camera Friday, Sept. 13, in a “non-public, unisex bathroom in the backstage area” of the campus, officials said.
The worship director, who McClatchy News is not naming because formal charges have not been filed, admitted to placing the camera in the bathroom, according to the church.
He was reportedly arrested the same day.
Livingston County Sheriff Mike Murphy told the Livingston Daily more information regarding the arrest was expected to be released Monday, Sept. 16.
There are not believed to be additional cameras hidden in the church, according to an email sent to church members obtained by WXYZ. A third-party professional was hired to search for additional cameras.
“We are shocked and deeply saddened by this crime and violation of our community,” church leaders said in a statement. “The protection, safety and privacy of every person who enters our church is our priority. We are fully cooperating with the sheriff’s office as this is an ongoing investigation.”
Brighton is about a 50-mile drive northwest from Detroit.
