An 81-year-old man died after being hit by a car on an interstate in Virginia, police told news outlets.

Officers responded to a call reporting a two-vehicle crash just before 10:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 18, in the westbound express lane of Interstate 64 in Chesapeake, Virginia State Police said, according to WAVY.

A man, later identified as John Duff, was driving a 2009 Chevrolet Malibu when he ran off the road and struck a jersey wall, police said. The collision caused the car to spin around. When it stopped, Duff exited the vehicle and stood outside the car, police told WVEC.

Shortly afterward, a 2019 Dodge Challenger driver, later identified by officials as 19-year-old Dahnna Renita Meno, approached at a high rate of speed, lost control of the vehicle and ran off the roadway, striking both Duff and his car, police said, according to the outlet.

Duff was taken to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, officials told WTKR. Meno and the four other passengers in her vehicle at the time were not injured, officials said.

According to police, Meno was charged with reckless driving and may face additional charges, WTKR reported.
