A driver accused of tailgating a woman’s car saw her get out to check for damage, then he slammed into her, Florida cops say.

Boris Alexander Twillman, 57, was out on bond for charges including aggravated assault and aggravated battery in connection with a March incident, according to Pinellas County records.

Now, he’s also facing charges of attempted murder and leaving the scene of a crash involving serious bodily injury.

His attorney couldn’t comment on the pending case.

The woman reported she was driving on U.S. Route 19 the afternoon of Aug. 10 when she noticed a man in a Jeep Wrangler tailgating her, according to a criminal complaint from the Largo Police Department.

She believed he rear-ended her, so she got out of her car to check for damage, police said.

She said she saw Twillman smile at her, then accelerate and plow into her with his Jeep, pinning her body between the two vehicles, according to police.

Then she told police he dragged her along the driver’s side before fleeing the scene.

She was taken to a hospital in critical condition with a broken pelvis, broken leg and lacerations on her face, police said.

Investigators found Twillman’s Jeep at his home, but he wasn’t there.

Later, police said Twillman called them to report something had happened on U.S. Route 19, but he said he wasn’t involved himself.

He was arrested that night, records show.

“The suspect involved in this road rage incident exhibited extremely dangerous and reckless behavior, escalating the situation to a level that sent a victim to the hospital with serious injuries,” the Largo Police Department told WTVT. “This type of behavior cannot and will not be tolerated on roads in the city of Largo.”

Family members told news outlets the young woman was driving with her brother and her boyfriend’s two young children.

“The children were extremely distraught,” her aunt Misty Moore told the Tampa Bay Times. “Everybody was just in an absolute panic.”

Tammy Holycross, the woman’s mother, told WTVT that her “main concern is that I’m not burying her.”

“But I feel like justice needs to be served,” she told the outlet.

Moore shared on Facebook on Aug. 11 that her niece had surgery on her leg and was “as good as she can be” ahead of another planned operation.

Largo is part of the Tampa Bay area.
