Authorities in Michigan are continuing an investigation after they said human remains were found on property belonging to a man whose wife went missing in 2021.

Dee Warner was reported missing on April 25, 2021, according to Michigan State Police. Her husband, Dale Warner, was charged with murder in November 2023, court records show.

Authorities executed a search warrant on a Lenawee County property that belongs to Dale Warner and found human remains, according to an Aug. 18 update from police.

Dale Warner’s attorney Mary Chartier told McClatchy News in an email that they are waiting for confirmation that the remains are Dee Warner.

“This appears to be another tragic turn of events for all those who loved and cared for her,” Chartier said.

Police said the remains are being recovered and “there will be a great deal of work and testing completed before positive identification is made.”

However, family members told news outlets that they believe the remains belong to Dee Warner.

“She was a vibrant personality and she (will) always continue to be that in our hearts,” Dee Warner’s nephew Parker Hardy told WTOL.

The remains were found inside of a “sealed tank meant for anhydrous ammonia,” according to WTVG.

Dale Warner has been a person of interest to police since Dee Warner’s disappearance, according to WTOL.

In May 2023, law enforcement dug up property belonging to the Warners in an effort to find evidence but came up with nothing, WTVG previously reported.

In addition to the murder charge, Dale Warner is charged with tampering with evidence. He pleaded not guilty and was given a $15,000,000 bond.
