The South Carolina Department of Transportation will temporarily close lanes along Highway 17 Bypass this coming week as part of its project to widen the popular Myrtle Beach area highway.

Starting Sunday, crews with the SCDOT will be installing guardrails from Harrelson Boulevard to Farrow Parkway, the department said in a news release on Thursday.

The construction is part of the ongoing project to expand the busy stretch from four lanes to six lanes, The Sun News previously reported. The $19.3 million project includes improvements to both southbound and northbound lanes from S.C. 707 to Shetland Lane in Horry County.

Crews are expected to be working from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. June 7-11 and from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. June 14, depending on weather, the department said in the release.

Motorists should expect traffic pattern changes.
