With three events bringing thousands of people to Myrtle Beach for the weekend, several streets in downtown will be busier than normal.

Traffic along Oak Street, North Kings Highway, Robert Grissom Parkway, and other nearby roads may be heavy from March 13 through 16 as the Run to the Sun Car and Truck Show, the Myrtle Beach Collegiate Track and Field Challenge and Liberty Classic volleyball tournament head into town.

“Spring break is also going on so we anticipate more traffic from people visiting too,” said Meredith Denari, the Myrtle Beach director of communications and creative services, in an email to The Sun News.

Run to the Sun will be held at the former Myrtle Square Mall site, located along Oak Street between Myrtle Place and 27th Avenue North. It runs from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. March 13 through 15 and classic cars will begin parking Wednesday afternoon, according to the website.

Vehicles will also be traveling along North Kings Highway, which can cause potential traffic backups.

The Myrtle Beach track and field meet will take place on March 14 and 15 at the Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium, 705 33rd Ave. N. Events will start at 10 a.m. and last until the evening both days. This event is expected to draw in over 1,100 athletes, according to a release from Timothy Huber, the Myrtle Beach sports tourism director.

The Liberty Classic will be March 15 and 16 at the John T. Rhodes Myrtle Beach Sports Center, 2115 Sports Center Way. Seventy teams are anticipated to compete in the volleyball tournament, Huber said in a release.
