Update: Horry County road to reopen after being closed to all traffic this week
A section of International Drive has reopened Wednesday after the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources completed its controlled burns.
The closure began Monday and was set to continue through Friday, March 1, according to a release from the Horry County government.
Per SCDNR, no more controlled burns are planned for the area the remainder of the week. However, there may be lingering smoke that could impact visibility Wednesday evening.
Community members are encouraged to use caution while driving nearby.
International Drive was closed to all traffic on International Drive from S.C. 90 to Ocean Bay Elementary School.
Prescribed burns are set intentionally for purposes of forest management and to prevent uncontrolled forest fires, the release said.
