Road work has been ongoing near the Myrtle Beach International Airport.

Trees have been cut down, and The City of Myrtle Beach announced via Facebook in August that the work would take until 2025.

The roadwork is part of a construction project to widen from one to three lane and connect Fred Nash Blvd and Harrelson Blvd.

Bicycle and pedestrian lanes will also be part of the lane widening and is expected to reduce traffic congestion at the US 17 Bypass and Harrelson Blvd, according to a 2019 Sun News article.

The project is expected to cost $19.3 million, and part of the larger Ride III initiative, a partnership between Horry County and SCDOT.

Passed via referendum in 2016, Ride III increased sales taxes in Horry County by a penny to generate $592 million during the lifetime of the tax. The penny increase will be in effect until April 30, 2025.
