Family seeks answers in deadly shooting of Marine vet, nuclear engineer near SC bar
The family of a North Carolina man is seeking answers to how he ended up being fatally shot in a Myrtle Beach area sports bar parking lot over the weekend.
Dannie Pigotte, 41, of Shallotte, died May 2 at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center after being transported from Magoo’s Sports & Spirits, 3308 Waccamaw Blvd., according to an email from Horry County Chief Deputy Coroner Tamara Willard.
The family of Pigotte posted on Facebook Monday that they are seeking information about what occurred on the night he was shot. “It has been nearly three days and there have been no reports made or transparency given to his relatives to offer solace at this time,” the post said.
Pigotte was shot in the parking lot of the bar, Willard said. It happened a little after 2 a.m., according to a Horry County Police incident report. The report offered no other information about the shooting. No arrests have been made.
Parking lot shooting still under investigation
The shooting remains under investigation, according to a text Tuesday from Horry County Police spokesperson Thomas Bell. Bell said that those involved in the incident “have been accounted for.”
Bell said that the shooting happened after an altercation in the parking lot and two people were shot, one fatally.
Pigotte was a father and U.S. Marine Corps veteran, who served tours of duty during the war in Afghanistan, the post said. He also was a business owner, a nuclear engineer, and “a man of faith known for his gentle spirit, warm generosity, smile and kindness to all who knew him,” the post said.
Pigotte’s LinkedIn account said that he is employed by Sonic Systems International, which provides nuclear energy resources.
