Horry County police officer allegedly sought bribes to drop traffic tickets

An Horry County police officer was charged with two counts of bribery by a public official and two counts of misconduct in office after allegedly seeking hundreds of dollars to drop traffic violations in the Garden City area.

Horry County Police Department Private First Class Aldrich Roshun Calloway, 35, was charged by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) and booked at the J. Reuben Long Detention Center.

On March 21, Calloway issued a reckless driving traffic ticket. He then allegedly messaged the person on Facebook to request a call.

When they spoke by phone on April 2, the person recorded Calloway saying he would dismiss the ticket for $400.

“I keep a little notebook of tickets that I drop for people ... Sometimes people hit the Cash App. Sometimes they hit the Venmo. You know what I’m saying? So I go in and drop stuff for people,” Calloway said in the recording, according to an arrest warrant. “You know, everybody be happy. If you catch my drift. So Imma, Imma need you to send me bout 400 dollars to this Cash App.”

Just days later, on April 5, Calloway issued two traffic tickets, one for a window tint violation and one for squatting. He allegedly offered to dismiss both tickets for $200 in cash.

When the person asked if the exchange was considered bribery, Calloway said, “This is us making a deal under the table,” according to another arrest warrant.

Calloway’s case will be prosecuted by the 15th Circuit Solicitor’s Office.
