NC man used shotgun in Myrtle Beach Publix parking lot shooting. He was arrested
A North Carolina man has been charged in a shooting Friday that happened in a Publix parking after a disagreement between two motorists.
This is the second incident that has happened in the grocery store parking lot in the last two weeks. Previously, two customers were held at gunpoint and robbed.
Kevin Lamar Mccoy, 34, of Autryville, has been charged with aggravated assault and battery, possession of a weapon during a violent crime and unlawful possession of a firearm following the shooting that happened at 5:38 p.m. Friday, April 3, 2026, in the parking lot at 7925 North Kings Highway, according to a Facebook post from Myrtle Beach Police.
One person sustained injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment, where they are recovering, the post said.
The investigation indicates at this time that the incident began as a disagreement between two motorists that escalated into a physical altercation at the location, the post said. Following the altercation, the victim was distancing himself when McCoy fired multiple rounds from a shotgun from inside the vehicle, striking the victim.
There is no known ongoing threat to the community, as investigators believe this to be an isolated and random incident, the post said.
The shooting comes after two students, one a juvenile, were charged with armed robbery after breaking into a vehicle at the same Publix parking lot and robbing the owners when they returned to their vehicle on March 24.
Antwon Tewon Le’Flore Jr., 20, faces a slew of charges, including two counts of armed robbery with a deadly weapon, kidnapping, breaking into a motor vehicle, contributing to the delinquency of a minor and criminal conspiracy. He was booked into J. Reuben Long Detention Center on March 25, 2026. The name of the juvenile was not released.
The victims told police they emerged from Publix to find their black Cadillac ransacked, according to an incident report. Two men allegedly approached the victims with guns, patted them down and stole $320 before running off.
