The name of a Myrtle Beach man killed in a weekend assault was released by the Horry County Coroner’s Office.
On Sunday, March 15, 2026, Durrell Polite, 39, was found dead, partially in the roadway on Ramsey Drive, according to an email Tuesday from Chief Deputy Coroner Tamara Willard.
An autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of his death, Willard said.
Another Myrtle Beach man, 43-year-old Corey Anthony Stephens, was arrested and charged with murder in the death.
The deadly assault occurred at a city home on Sunday, according to Myrtle Beach Police.
Stephens was taken into custody on Monday by members of the U.S. Marshals Service Carolina Regional Fugitive Task Force, according to a Facebook post by the Myrtle Beach Police.
On Sunday, March 15, 2026, at 6 a.m., Myrtle Beach Police officers responded to a home at 541 Ramsey Drive in reference to an assault. One person was found with serious injuries and was taken to a hospital for treatment, where he died from his injuries, the post said.
Officers identified Stephens as the person responsible. Investigators learned that Stephens and the victim knew each other, and the assault appears to be an isolated incident, the post said.
