Horry County Fire Rescue and the Loris Fire Department responded to a camper blaze in Loris, which left one person critically injured on Friday morning.

A Loris woke to flames on Friday morning, and is now in the hospital with critical injuries.

The Loris Fire Department responded to the 600 block of Fox Bay Road at about 9:45 a.m., according to Fire Chief Jerry Hardee. There, they found a roughly 30 foot camper on a concrete pad, parked beside a home, as well as the victim, who told officials that he was asleep in the camper when he woke to flames, and suffered severe burns trying to get out.

The camper was lost to the fire, Hardee said, and the nearby house suffered siding damage, but no structural damage.

The victim of the fire remained at a hospital as of Friday afternoon, but Hardee said he will likely be transferred for further care.

Horry County Fire Rescue also responded to the blaze as an assisting agency.
