Body found in back of burning car in Horry County. Two men are charged with murder
Two men were arrested Wednesday in connection with a homicide from October 2025, in which a man was found dead in the back of a burning car, Horry County Police announced.
On Oct. 4, 2025, Stoney Floyd Jr., 20, of Loris, was found dead in the back of a vehicle that had been set on fire, police said. Horry County Police investigators determined that the death was a homicide, and the vehicle was set aflame on purpose.
Now, Evin Elijah Worrell, 23, and Jerrick Larog Thomas, 20, both face charges of murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime in connection to the death.
Floyd’s body was found in the area of West Bear Grass Road and Bullock Trail., and was “severely burned,” according to an incident report.
Worrell and Thomas killed Floyd with malice aforethought, and while in possession of firearms, according to their arrest warrants. This was discovered through eyewitness accounts and evidence left at the scene, the warrants state.
Thomas has also been charged with discharging a firearm into a dwelling, related to a separate incident that happened on Sept. 28, 2025, on Bombing Range Road in Longs, police said. During this incident, he shot at a dwelling from a moving vehicle, striking the home and a vehicle, according to his arrest warrant.
Jayveon Nylek Mccaskill was arrested in October in connection to the homicide, accused of helping Floyd’s killers escape the scene, according to his arrest warrant.
The night of the death, Mccaskill followed a black Mitsubishi Outlander in his black Hyundai Genesis to Bullock Trail and West Bear Grass Road, which was caught on camera, his arrest warrants say. When they arrived, individuals from Mccaskill’s vehicle, along with the driver of the Outlander, set the Outlander on fire, The Sun News previously reported.
They then got back into Mccaskill’s car, and he drove them away from the scene, according to Mccaskill’s warrant. Then, in a post Miranda interview, Mccaskill said that the driver of the Outlander contributed to Floyd’s homicide.
An officer responded to assist Horry County Fire Rescue at the scene that night as they were dealing with the vehicle fire. The person who called in the fire said the car was “engulfed” in flames and “setting off small explosions,” incident reports said. The person who discovered the fire said he was drawn to the scene from nearby when he and his family heard a loud bang.
Mccaskill remains in J. Reuben Long Detention Center facing one count of accessory after the fact to felony A, B, C or murder. His bond is $75,000.
Worrell and Thomas both remain incarcerated without bail, according to online arrest records.
No further information has been released. The investigation into the incident is still ongoing.
