SC man arrested for aiding killers after leaving body in burning car, police said

A man was found dead in the back of a burning vehicle in Longs in early October. Now, police say the man was murdered, and an arrest has been made.

Stoney Floyd Jr., 20, of Loris, was discovered about 8 p.m. on Oct. 4, 2025, in the backseat of a vehicle which was on fire on Bullock Trail in Longs, according to an email sent by Horry County Chief Deputy Coroner Tamara Willard. Police determined that it was a homicide , and that the car was set purposely on fire, according to police records.

Jayveon Nylek Mccaskill was arrested on Friday for helping Floyd’s killers flee the scene, according to his arrest warrant.

Information on additional arrests were not released.

On Oct. 4, 2025, Mccaskill followed a black Mitubishi Outlander in his black Hyundai Genesis to Bullock Trail and West Bear Grass Road in Longs, which was seen on camera, according to his arrest warrant. When they arrived at Bullock Trail, individuals from Mccaskill’s vehicle, along with the driver of the Outlander, set the Outlander on fire, the warrant continues.

The individuals then got back into Mccaskill’s car, and he drove them away from the scene, the warrant says. In a post Miranda interview, Mccaskill said that the driver of the Outlander contributed to the murder of Floyd, according to the warrant.

At around 8:29 p.m., an officer responded to assist Horry County Fire Rescue with a vehicle fire in the area of West Bear Grass Road and Bullock Trail in Longs, according to the incident report. The person who called in the fire said it was “engulfed” in flames and “setting off small explosions,” according to the incident report. The person said he was drawn to the scene by a loud bang heard by he and his family, the incident report states.

Mccaskill remains in J. Reuben Long Detention Center facing one count of accessory after the fact to felony A, B, C or murder. His bond is $75,000.
