A Myrtle Beach man was sentenced Wednesday in the deadly 2023 bar shooting that killed a Longs man, court records indicate.

The shooting death also led to the closing of the bar where it occurred because of a number of violent incidents over the years.

Kvon Tyrese Lawhorn, 26, of Myrtle Beach, was originally charged with murder after the shooting killed Starquan Washington, 23, and injured another at Barfield’s Bar and Grille, located at 4803 Highway 17 Bypass in Myrtle Beach.

Lawhorn faced charges for murder, possession of a weapon during a violent crime and attempted murder, but he entered a guilty plea on an involuntary manslaughter charge. He will now serve a five-year prison sentence.

Washington died of his injuries after being transported to the hospital, and the other victim was treated for non-life threatening injuries, The Sun News previously reported.

The shooting took place on Oct. 18, 2023. Lawhorn will be credited for time served.

Barfield’s announced its closing a month later following a notice from the state that it intended to revoke the bar’s alcohol license based on a series of violent incidents, including the homicide.

The incident was one of several that took place within a period of several years at the lot. In 2018, 15th Circuit Solicitor Jimmy Richardson asked a judge for a court order to close neighboring Klocker’s, along with two other bars, due to multiple reports of fights, public intoxication and assaults in the parking lot — which was shared with Barfield’s, The Sun News previously reported.
