Update: MBPD arrest suspects for shooting in Myrtle Beach tourist area
A little more than a month after a deadly mass shooting in the busy tourist section of Myrtle Beach, police are investigating another shooting in the same area.
Myrtle Beach Police responded to a shooting Thursday near the intersection of 9th Avenue North and North Ocean Boulevard, near Peaches Corner.
Police have arrested Syire Arik McLeod and Chason Jalih Harris, both 18, of Oxford, NC.
Police have also arrested a person who will be named once they are charged, and two juveniles related to the incident.
The shooting happened about 11:55 p.m., according to a Facebook post from police.
After an altercation, several shots were fired and one individual sustained a gunshot wound, the post said. That person has been transported to a local hospital and is still undergoing treatment.
No other injuries have been reported.
Police said there is no active threat in the area and increased law enforcement presence will remain as the investigation is ongoing.
McLeod has been charged with third degree assault and battery.
Harris has been charged with tampering with evidence.
No other information about the shooting has been released at this time.
Thursday’s shooting comes after an officer-involved shooting on April 26, 2025, in the 900 block of North Ocean Boulevard. A Myrtle Beach Police officer shot and killed 18-year-old Jerrius Davis, who allegedly fired into a crowd of people on a busy walk which prompted police to return fire.
Eleven others were injured in the shooting. South Carolina Law Enforcement Division is currently investigating the shooting.
Davis, of Bennettsville in nearby Marlboro County, was apparently in Myrtle Beach on spring break with a family member and friends, as were many of the other victims in the shooting.
Safety along the Boulevard has long been a concern of both residents and visitors who come into the city. Recent shootings have only increased the concern, especially now that the city is in its summer tourist season.
