What we know about the teenager killed in downtown Myrtle Beach mass shooting
A shooting in downtown Myrtle Beach left a teenager dead and 11 other people wounded.
At about 11:50 p.m. on April 26, one person fired their gun which caused a Myrtle Beach Police officer to discharge their firearm at the shooter, said witness Michael Howard in a previous interview with The Sun News.
In the commotion, Jerrius Davis, 18, was shot and killed at 913 North Ocean Blvd., said Horry County Coroner Tamara Willard.
Here is what we know about Davis.
He lived in Bennettsville, South Carolina, which is located in Marlboro County, Willard said. It is unclear where he attended school. The Sun News reached out to the Marlboro County School District and asked but did not receive a response before publication.
Davis appeared to go by Chuck based on social media posts and an interview his mother, Jaeishala Fox, gave to WPDE. Fox said Davis was in Myrtle Beach with his 16-year-old brother, a close friend and the friend’s parents.
The Sun News reached out to Fox and multiple other people who looked to be friends with Davis but did not receive a response.
Fox knew Davis had a gun, saying he asked for one to protect himself.
Davis had no prior charges. The Sun News looked through court records in seven counties around Horry and Marlboro County but did not find any charges for Davis.
