Update: Mo-ped driver killed in car crash on Sea Mountain Highway identified

The driver of mo-ped who was killed Thursday in a car crash on Sea Mountain Highway was recently identified.

William Vansteenburg, 69, of Little River was named as the deceased in the fatal crash, Michelle McSpadden, deputy coroner with Horry County, said.

The crash happened about 4 p.m. on Sea Mountain Highway in Horry County, and one man was charged with a traffic violation after a crash occurred involving a truck and the mo-ped, according to Cpl. Sonny Collins with the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

The driver of a mo-ped was traveling west on Sea Mountain Highway when the driver, Dary’le Brooks, 19, in a 2007 GMC pickup truck, pulled out in front of the mo-ped, and the mo-ped then struck the pickup truck, Collins said.

The driver of the mo-ped was not wearing a helmet, Collins said.

Brooks was charged with failure to yield the right of way, authorities said.

The highway patrol is still investigating this incident.

This is the second traffic fatality to occur this week in Horry County.

Susan Renee Hester, age 44, of Conway and North Carolina, died on the scene from injuries she suffered during the crash that happened about 6:45 p.m. Tuesday on Highway 366, authorities said.

The deadly crash occurred when Steven Krevinko, the 46-year-old driver of a 1993 Oldsmobile sports utility vehicle, was traveling west on Highway 366 near Loris and lost control of the SUV, which flipped over several times, Collins said.

Krevinko was taken to Grand Strand Regional Medical Center with injuries.

The highway patrol is continuing to investigate the crash. No charges have been filed against Krevinko at this time, Collins said.
