Three people are facing charges in connection to a Sunday shooting in Myrtle Beach that left a Florence County teenager dead, police said Monday.
Tai’yuan Jackson, 20, of Effingham, has been charged with murder, three counts of assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature, unlawful carry of a handgun and possession of a weapon during a violent crime, according to a Facebook post from the Myrtle Beach Police Department.
Li’quan Hickson, 22, of Effingham, has been charged with accessory after the fact. The post stated a juvenile has also been charged. That person’s name and charges have not been released.
All three are in police custody.
The boy killed in the shooting was DyQuavyon “Quay” Dickens-Jones, 17, a football and basketball player at South Florence High School, according to social media posts from the football coach and basketball team.
“We are devastated by the loss of Quay,” Coach Drew Marlowe said. “ Quay was a beloved member of our football team and school. Quay was also a beloved member of my family. He politely spoke to my wife after every practice, held all three of my children on a regular basis, and ate at my dinner table.”
The shooting happened near 12th Avenue North and Withers Alley around 1:30 a.m., according to Myrtle Beach Police.
Three others were also injured in the shooting. One was shot and is receiving treatment. Another was hospitalized for abrasions and has been released, police previously said. The other was hospitalized for a gunshot wound but has been released.
Officers responded to the scene of the shooting “within 30 seconds” and were able to quickly identify those involved, police said.
