‘Heart, soul and spirit of South Florence:’ teen killed in Myrtle Beach shooting
A Florence teen died after a shooting in Myrtle Beach over the weekend, a school official said.
DyQuavyon Dickens-Jones, 17, was a football and basketball player at South Florence High School, according to social media posts from the football coach and basketball team
“We are devastated by the loss of Quay,” Coach Drew Marlowe said. “ Quay was a beloved member of our football team and school. Quay was also a beloved member of my family. He politely spoke to my wife after every practice, held all three of my children on a regular basis, and ate at my dinner table.”
He called Dickens-Jones’ death “tragic,” adding the football player will be missed.
The basketball team’s Twitter page described him as “the heart, soul and spirit of South Florence.”
“Nobody could match the passion he had for everything he did and the love he showed to others,” the wrote. “There will never be another like him.”
The shooting happened near 12th Avenue North and Withers Alley around 1:30 a.m on Sunday., according to a Myrtle Beach Police Department Facebook post.
Another person was shot and is receiving treatment. A second person was hospitalized for abrasions and has been released, police said. A third person also was hospitalized for a gunshot wound but has been released.
At least two people have been charged related to the shooting as of Monday afternoon, according to Myrtle Beach Police.
