Couple that ‘loved each other so much’ dies in North Myrtle Beach wreck, one charged

John Dixon and Brittany Kotterman enjoyed walks on the beach with their two children and just as many dogs. Maybe, even grabbing a bite of ice cream afterward.

Those happy moments are now just memories as Dixon and Kotterman died in a North Myrtle Beach crash earlier this month.

“They both loved each other so much,” said Patty Walters, Dixon’s mother.

The couple died in an Aug. 7 wreck along U.S. 17 and 6th Avenue North. They were riding their motorcycle at the time of the crash. Police charged Joseph Lashawn Bostic with failure to yield right-of-way in the collision. The wreck happened as the couple was heading to meet friends for dinner, Walters said.

According to a police report, Bostic made a left turn in front of, and hit, the motorcycle. Bostic went to the hospital, where medical staff found almost 10 grams of marijuana on him and turned the drugs over to the police.

Walters said the couple was engaged — though Dixon’s family members often referred to Kotterman as his wife — and together raised Bayly, 6, and Landon, 13. Dixon worked at Shoreline Fence Company and Kotterman was a laid-off dental hygienist, Walters said. She lost her job because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“She was always happy,” Walters said of Kotterman.

Dixon was Walters’ youngest child and she described him as the type of person that would help anyone that asked.

“He was a kind person,” Walters said. “He loved everyone and everyone loved him.”
