Bystander hit and a police chase: Two suspects in Myrtle Beach shooting in court

An innocent bystander was shot in late July near the Community Kitchen, and police say they have arrested two suspects.

Johnny Frazier and Samone Lloyd were in Myrtle Beach municipal court for bond hearings Monday. They each face several charges, including assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature, in connection to the shooting.

“There is an innocent person who got shot in their recklessness,” Detective C. White said.

In late July, Myrtle Beach police responded to an area near the Community Kitchen off Mr. Joe White Avenue for a reported shooting.

White said investigators determined Lloyd and Frazier were stalking a car nearby and followed that person to the kitchen. Lloyd was the driver and Frazier was a passenger in their rental car.

Frazier got out of the vehicle and shot at the other car with two handguns, White said. Officers found 14 shell cases at the scene. Bullets hit two nearby apartments and a bystander was shot. Police said the victim had non-life-threatening injuries.

“These people were completely innocent of that situation,” White said of the victim.

The two suspects fled the area and led police on a chase towards Fantasy Harbour and the old Freestyle Music Park.

White noted Frazier has an extensive criminal history, including arrests for armed robbery and weapons charges. Judge Clifford Welsh denied bond for both suspects on their most serious charge. That means they will remain behind bars in the J. Reuben Long Detention Center until they appear before a circuit court judge.

Lloyd smirked and laughed during the hearing as she described what sounded like an intimate relationship with Frazier. She also claimed she didn’t know about his plans.

“I did not know anything that did happen or was going to happen,” Lloyd said.

White said Lloyd’s behavior mirrored how she acted in police interviews and he did not feel she was taking the situation seriously. He said she drove Frazier and waited for him after the shooting.
