One person shot in Myrtle Beach, suspect then leads cops on chase, authorities say

One person was shot in Myrtle Beach, and a suspect led police on a car chase hours later, authorities say.

Myrtle Beach police responded to a report of gunshots near Mr. Joe White Avenue and Nance Street around midnight. A person from the nearby Bay Pointe Apartments then said they were shot while inside their home, according to Myrtle Beach police Cpl. Thomas Vest.

That victim had non-life-threatening injuries and was treated by EMS, Vest said.

Investigators used city cameras and identified a vehicle possibly involved in the shooting.

Around 2:45 a.m. Wednesday, officers tried to stop a vehicle that matched the description of the one involved in the shooting, Vest said. Officers saw the vehicle near Robert Grissom Parkway and U.S. 501. The driver did not stop and led police on a chase along U.S. 501, where Horry County police joined the pursuit.

The driver eventually stopped and fled into the old Freestyle Music Park, Vest said.

Both Myrtle Beach police and Horry County officers are searching for the suspect. Around 4 a.m., Horry County authorities announced that George Bishop Parkway near Fantasy Harbour Boulevard was closed to traffic.

Officers searched for several hours, but could not find the suspect, Vest said. Anyone with information is asked to contact Myrtle Beach police at 843-918-1382.
