Suspects in two Myrtle Beach Ocean Boulevard shootings make first court appearances
The suspects in two weekend shootings along Ocean Boulevard made their first court appearances on Tuesday morning.
Two separates incidents — one of them deadly — marred the Memorial Weekend in Myrtle Beach.
Police responded to Ocean Boulevard and 15th Avenue South around 12:45 a.m. Monday for a reported shooting. The Horry County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Cadric Elmore Jr., of Greenwood, and classified his death as a homicide.
Investigators charged Kemain Masonte Reese, of Greenwood, with murder, unlawful carry of a weapon and possession of a weapon during a violent crime. A judge denied bond as only a circuit court judge can set bond on a murder charge.
Reese, 22, will be held in J. Reuben Long Detention Center until his next court appearance.
Reese told the court the victim’s mother would have been on his side. She did not appear in court due to space limitation because of COVID-19 restrictions.
There was an ongoing dispute, that lasted for years, between Reese and the victim, the suspect said.
Reese is currently on probation out of Greenwood County for a charge of breach of peace that was aggravated in nature. His supervision began in August 2019 and was set to end on Feb. 19, 2022, according to records from the South Carolina Department of Probation, Parole and Pardon Services.
Reese has also been charged with armed robbery and drug charges in Greenwood County over the last several years. The armed robbery charge was later dropped.
On Sunday, around 12:30 a.m., police responded to Ocean Boulevard and 12th Avenue North for a reported shooting. The incident happened near Free Fall Park.
Four people were shot in the incident and all are expected to recover. Senior Assistant Solicitor Josh Holford said an altercation might have happened before the shooting. Two bystanders, including an event staff member, were shot.
Police charged the following people in connection to the shooting:
