Man charged with murder in connection to fatal shooting on Myrtle Beach’s Ocean Boulevard
A 22-year-old is accused of murder for shooting and killing a person near Ocean Boulevard Monday morning.
Myrtle Beach police charged Kemain Masonte Reese, of Greenwood, with murder, unlawful carry of a weapon and possession of a weapon during a violent crime. He is being held in Myrtle Beach jail.
Reese faces life in prison.
Myrtle Beach police responded to a reported shooting around 12:45 a.m. Monday near the Landmark Resort on Ocean Boulevard. The hotel is near 15th Avenue South.
The Horry County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Cadric Elmore Jr., of Greenwood, and classified his death as a homicide.
Reese is currently on probation out of Greenwood County for a charge of breach of peace that was aggravated in nature. His supervision began in August 2019 and was set to end on Feb. 19, 2022, according to records from the South Carolina Department of Probation, Parole and Pardon Services.
Reese has also been charged with armed robbery and drug charges in Greenwood County over the last several years. The armed robbery charge was later dropped.
The shooting was the third along Ocean Boulevard in a eight-day stretch. Drawing strong condemnation from local leaders and on social media.
Around 12:30 a.m. Sunday, officers went to Ocean Boulevard near 12th Avenue North for a shooting that left four injured. Police took six people into custody in connection to that incident. All of the victims in that shooting are expected to recover.
Around 7:15 p.m. on May 17, officers went to Ocean Boulevard near 11th Avenue North for a shooting. Investigators say in that incident, rival gangs from Chesterfield County brought their dispute to Myrtle Beach and it ended when two groups fired across the street at each other.
