Conway police arrest one in connection to shooting near Whittemore Park

A 19-year-old faces decades in prison in connection to a shooting near Whittemore Park last week.

On Monday, Conway police announced that officers arrested and charged Deangelo Vereen-Price with attempted murder, possession of a weapon during a violent crime and unlawful carrying of a pistol. Attempted murder is punishable by up to 30 years in prison.

The shooting happened around 3:30 p.m. Thursday near Wright Boulevard. A victim was shot multiple times in the “lower extremities.” EMS took the victim to the hospital.

Whittemore Park Middle School went on lockdown as police investigated the shooting.

Vereen-Price is being held in J. Reuben Long Detention Center as bail has not been set in his case.
