A pregnant woman was killed in Myrtle Beach. Now one of the suspects will go to prison
One of the people accused of shooting and killing a pregnant woman in Myrtle Beach will head to prison for nearly two decades.
Jordan Pyatt pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter during an Horry County court hearing on Wednesday, according to Tonya Root, spokeswoman with the 15th Judicial Circuit Solicitor’s Office. He entered his plea with an Alford caveat, which is usually when the defendant does not admit guilt but acknowledges there is enough evidence to convict in a trial.
A judge sentenced Pyatt to 17 years in prison.
Police charged Pyatt with murder in connection to the 2017 shooting in the Booker T. Washington community that killed Jadasia Monique Myers. The incident led to anger and calls to end gun violence in the Myrtle Beach neighborhood.
Co-defendant Ajay Alston, a local rap artist, got into an argument with another man at a Carver Street apartment on Spivey Avenue, prosecutors said. Alston admitted to shooting at, and pistol whipping, another person.
Pyatt was accused of leaving home and shooting at a car in which Myers, 22, was a passenger. She was pregnant and shot in the neck. Her baby girl, who was to be named Harmony, was delivered but died.
Pyatt has been held in J. Reuben Long Detention Center since his 2017 arrest.
