Armed robbery incident leads to prison sentence for Conway man
A Conway man will spend nearly two decades in prison after robbing and injuring a now-deceased woman, according to the Horry County Solicitor’s Office.
Craig Ronnie Bright, 49, of Conway, pleaded guilty to the armed robbery of 69-year old woman Betty Taylor in 2016. Bright was sentenced on Monday to 15 years in prison, according to Nancy Livesay, the violent crimes assistant solicitor, who along with Chris Helms, an assistant solicitor, prosecuted the case.
Taylor’s family attended Monday’s hearing and spoke on her behalf before Bright was sentenced, officials said.
On Apr. 26, 2016, Bright took a debit card from Taylor, cut her several times, including on her neck, and went to an ATM and withdrew money from her account, officials said, adding that Taylor has since passed away. The Sun News previously reported in 2016 that Taylor was Bright’s ex-wife.
While Bright must serve 85 percent of his sentence before he is eligible for parole, he is also currently serving a four-year prison sentence after his parole was revoked in 2017 for a previous unrelated armed robbery charge, officials said.
