Man accused of violent home invasion by Horry County police no longer a suspect

A man identified by Horry County police as a suspect in a violent home invasion is no longer wanted for criminal charges.

The department announced on Friday that Quashean Malilque Phillips was no longer a suspect in the case. The move came less than 24 hours after the department named him, released his picture and asked for the public’s help to locate him.

Horry County police arrested Davonte Shepard, 27, of Conway, in connection to the incident. Officers charged him with attempted murder, two counts of first-degree burglary, three counts of possession of a weapon during a violent crime, two counts of unlawful neglect of a child or helpless person, two counts of first-degree burglary and two counts of pointing and presenting a firearm at a person.

Police say that on Saturday, Shepard and another suspect went into a Franks Lane home and got into a struggle with the homeowner.

The victim was shot in the leg, but stabbed a suspect with a pocket knife.

The suspects then broke into a neighboring home, where they assaulted two other people, police say.

As officers started to investigate the assault, Shepard showed up at a local hospital with a stab wound, according to Horry police. He was booked into J. Reuben Long Detention Center on Wednesday and is being held without bail.
