One dead in Myrtle Beach shooting, witnesses detail scene: ‘Shaking just talking about it’
One person is dead following a shooting in a vehicle on North Kings Highway Monday night, Horry County Coroner Robert Edge confirmed.
The shooting happened near the 100 block of North Kings Highway around 10 p.m. Myrtle Beach police and witnesses said the suspects fled soon after the incident. The Horry County Coroner’s Office has not released the name of the victim.
Dane Morton was in the parking lot of the nearby Waffle House when he saw a black sedan that was driving north suddenly stop.
“They were going 40,” Morton said. “Dead stop. I heard the wheels screech and everything.”
Two men jumped out of the car and fled the area, Morton said. A woman got out of the car and yelled for someone to call the police.
“The lady comes out screaming, saying her husband was shot,” he said.
Morton was at the restaurant with his mother, Amanda, and his boyfriend Colebry Sniper. When they saw Dane Morton on the phone, the two went to find out why. Sniper, a former boy scout and ROTC member, went to check on the victim who was in the passenger seat of the car.
Sniper said he found a slight pulse on the victim. There was blood on the car’s windshield, and the victim had a gunshot wound to the head. There was also money in the vehicle.
“I was like ‘You OK man?’” Sniper recalled asking. “He was moving his arms. He leaned his head back.”
Sniper said he reclined the seat and didn’t want to move the victim until police and EMS arrived at the scene.
Officers blocked off a section of North Kings Highway in front of Waffle House as they investigated a black sedan in the road. Several patrons and employees in the Waffle House remained inside as police canvassed the scene.
Police say the shooting happened inside the vehicle and there have been no arrests made in connection to the shooting as of Tuesday afternoon. There were no other injuries in the shooting.
Anyone with information abut the shooting is asked to contact police at 843-918-1382.
“I’m shaking and kind of in shock. I wouldn’t wish it on anyone,” Dane Morton said. “I’m shaking just talking about it.”
