Cops heard gunshots on a Myrtle Beach street, now one person has been charged

A 20-year-old faces a felony charge as police say he served as an accessory to attempted murder on Cedar Street.

Myrtle Beach police charged Marcus Xavier Peele with accessory after the fact. He is being held in J. Reuben Long Detention Center on a $15,000 bond.

Around 11:20 p.m. on Dec. 20, officers were on scene of a traffic stop near 3rd Avenue South and South Kings Highway and heard gunshots nearby.

Police went to the 200 block of Cedar Street and found several shell casings near a fence and bullet holes in a building, according to an arrest warrant.

A victim was shot in the leg and hip and taken to the hospital, the warrant states.

Peele and others drove to the Myrtle Beach area and went to the house to “beat up the victim,” the warrant states. A co-defendant allegedly fired the shots and video surveillance showed the shooter running in front of Peele’s car. Peele then reportedly provided false information to police to protect the shooter, authorities said.

Peele was arrested on Saturday at a Conway resident without incident, according to a police report.
